The defence of professionals has been a significant part of Whitelaw Twining’s practice since its inception in 1979. Over the past 30 years, the lawyers in the Professional Liability Group have represented professional clients at all levels of the British Columbia courts as well as before professional tribunals and regulatory bodies. The lawyers in the Professional Liability Group are not only knowledgeable about the law and procedural matters, but also attuned to the sensitivities of our clients’ professional and business needs. Our expertise includes an understanding of the way professionals approach their work and the particular disciplinary standards that govern a specific area of practice.
Whitelaw Twining’s Professional Liability Group lawyers have worked closely with professional associations in developing risk management programs and providing seminars on litigation avoidance and/or mitigation. Our lawyers have also worked closely with insurers to develop claims management protocols and expertise in handling professional liability claims and in understanding the distinction between professional liability claims handling and standard property and casualty claims handling.
In addition to our defence work, the Whitelaw Twining’s Professional Liability Group provides advice to insurers regarding coverage issues arising from professional liability policies. Our lawyers have also assisted in the drafting of policy wording.
