Dan Shugarman's practice involves general insurance litigation and personal injury matters with a significant emphasis on catastrophic injury, product liability, and complex machinery failure claims. Dan has significant court experience in the British Columbia Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. He is also lead counsel in a Supreme Court of Canada case that will dictate how judges across Canada render their judgments. He has participated in hundreds of mediations, successfully resolving complex multi-party product liability claims, sexual abuse claims, and catastrophic injury claims.
Dan's defence work includes successfully defending a coverage dispute which arose out of a double homicide, suicide and fire. He has defended product liability claims involving a runaway reservoir, an automotive brake assembly, a door hinge assembly, playground equipment, UPS systems for pulp mills, boiler machinery, and much more. Dan has also been successful in the prosecution of bodily injury claims with complex causation issues including a multi-million dollar medical malpractice claim and motor vehicle claims.

Dan's interests revolve around his two children, Cooper and Talia, and in particular their interest in the arts, sports, and why the world is as it is. Dan is an accomplished skier and a road bike enthusiast. Much of his time is devoted to the governance of his childrens' school.
