Heather Jones was called to the Ontario Bar in 1993 and to the British Columbia Bar in 1994.
Heather is an accomplished lawyer with deep practical experience in complex corporate/commercial litigation. She has been responsible for the successful resolution of directors and officers liability issues, shareholder disputes, fiduciary duty conflicts, governance issues, contract disputes, negligence allegations, business purchase and sale matters, intellectual property issues and employee disputes,. She has extensive experience in both the British Columbia Supreme Court as well as the Court of Appeal and in successfully negotiating resolutions through mediation and arbitration. She is involved in local, national and international matters including international fraud issues and forum matters.
Heather has also advised on the successful resolution of complex construction litigation matters. She has successfully participated in multi-party mediations, advised on a day to day basis through difficult building issues, addressed builder's lien issues, expropriation, zoning, land use matters and construction damage liability as well as strata matters. She has an understanding of the legal process and works with her clients to minimize risk and protect their interests.
Heather has advised municipal and regional governments on numerous matters including the impact of differing statutory, regulatory and policy obligations, environmental issues, division of powers and the limits and requirements of statutory duties. She has successfully litigated highly sensitive constitutional matters and reviewed proposed legislation for areas of challenge.
Heather is actively involved in both the legal and volunteer community. Her legal community activities including teaching at UBC Law School as a sessional professor, advising the Law Students Legal Advice Program, mentoring young lawyers and guest lecturing. She has co-chaired the Vancouver General Hospital Gala and continues to sit on that board as well as volunteering to assist local small businesses after successfully starting and running one herself.
